ChuckIt Ultra Rubber Ball

Chuck My Ball, Daddy: I Wanna Play Fetch!

Cooper just loves his ChuckIt Ultra!
The newest member of our family showed up just before Christmas a couple of years ago, a sweet little one-year-old boy rescued by a local Lab rescue group. He entered a household where his new big sister already had lots of established routines, one of which was daily play sessions in the park behind the house. Sis was happy for the little guy to join her, as long as he didn’t touch her toys. Since he’s not a retriever, we weren't sure how high his FQ (fetching quotient) would be, but he’s not only a great fetcher, he could teach his sister something about dropping. What a good boy!

We started him out with a hard rubber ball she'd rejected, but it seemed a bit large for his mouth and it didn’t bounce well. So I dug a different ball out of one of their toy boxes and started flinging it for him instead, and now he's a happy, happy camper!

About a Ball

This one's a ChuckIt Ultra, the Large size. It’s 3" in diameter and weighs 4½ ounces, the same size as a baseball but lighter – and it's made of thick natural rubber. It's bright orange and blue, with a smooth finish  on the blue parts and a somewhat pebbly finish on the orange ones. The blue sections follow the pattern of stiches on a regulation baseball.

What I like, or more accurately what the new kid likes, about this ball isn't just that it’s massive enough to fling a long way and rubbery enough to bounce well. It’s also just the right size for his mouth; though if your dog is smaller there are two other sizes (the diameter of Medium is 2½”, of Small, 2”). It floats, and when it's dirty or muddy, you can rinse it off and scrub it clean with a cloth or soft-bristle brush.  I didn't expect it to stand up to power chewers, but the household Lab gets hold of it regularly and it's survived just fine.

The Ultra is part of the ChuckIt throwing system that’s supposed to let you fling balls 200 feet or so, but we don’t have the necessary handle. We probably don’t need it, since puppy's quite happy playing fetch over the shorter distances. Long distance or short, straight out or straight up, our happy (but a tad worn-out) pooch loves this ball.

Summary

PLUS: The pooch loves it
MINUS: What's not to like?
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: Our newest dog loves his favorite toy, a ChuckIt Ultra Ball.
